Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday instructed the Animal Husbandry Department to set up a cow research centre in the state to “improve their breed” and to “protect” and “promote” them. The CM also asked the department to expedite the process of setting up a cow sanctuary in Bikaner. To be established as “Kamdhenu Research Centre”, the research centre will be affiliated to Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner. Officials said the CM, who was chairing a meeting with top officials of Animal Husbandry and Gaupalan departments, emphasised that research be conducted especially on Rathi, Tharparkar and Sahiwal breeds.
Kunji Lal Meena, secretary in the Animal Husbandry and Gaupalan departments, said the research centre will be one of its kind in the state. “RAJUVAS University has been instructed to set up the centre within the campus. The emphasis will be on breeding the indigenous bovine varieties,” Meena told.
